Max Barry | he writes things

MaxBarry.com is a rather humorous blog by author Max Barry. If you're not familiar with Barry, he authored such books as Company, Jennifer Government and Syrup. I haven't actually read any of his books, so my knowledge of his work is limited to what I've been able to read online, but I do enjoy what I've read so far. Someday I plan on pulling myself away from this computer desk long enough to head to the bookstore and see if I can find some of his work. Yes... that's right... I said bookstore. You remember... kinda like the "real life" counterparts of Amazon and such. I don't do online shopping.

I first discovered Barry when I stumbled upon his NationStates website. NationStates is a free online nation simulation game inspired by Barry's book Jennifer Government. So after checking out MaxBarry.com, you may wanna bop on over and create yourself a corrupt government or two.

Dlisted | Be Very Afraid

Dlisted is humorous celebrity gossip that is apparently in no way affiliated with Kathy Griffin or her show My Life on the D-List. It is updated at an amazingly fast rate. Like, you can pretty much finish the latest article, and refresh the page to find five new articles! OK... that's really only a slight exaggeration.
Dlisted's secret appears to be as follows: make a point of publishing all rumors before you make any attempt at verifying the information. Five minutes later, after quickly proving the information as false, you can then post an update discrediting your earlier post. Later on, you will always be able to post an article outlining how the subject of the previous false post is deeply upset and would sue you for slander if you were not cleverly covered by the following disclaimer:

Dlisted.com contains published rumors, speculation, assumptions, opinions as well as factual information. Information on this site may or may not be true and not meant to be taken as fact. Dlisted.com makes no warranty as to the validity of any claims.

Clever, no? By following this method, you get three posts where there otherwise would be none... and you're legally safe! OK... again... it's really only a slight exaggeration. Regardless, Dlisted is definitely worth checking out.

Gay News Daily: Towleroad, a premium site for modern gay men.

Towleroad describes itself as "a site with homosexual tendencies". It's basically in blog format, and it seemed worthy, although I haven't really checked it out much yet. It's content seems to be intended for gay men. I did read a couple of articles about pink (the color, not the singer). One article talked about the South Carolina penal system forcing inmates convicted of sex crimes to wear pink jumpsuits. The other is about a bunch of pink wearing high school boys in Nova Scotia.
I don't know about you, but I hate pink (again, the color, not the singer), and I don't blame those inmates for not wanting to wear pink jumpsuits -- ESPECIALLY since it labels them as sex offenders and makes them a target of assault. But tough shit -- they committed a crime, they pay the price. But as far as those high school boys are concerned, they're right. Students should be able to wear whatever color they want without fear of assault. So kudos to the boys for thinking about bringing in all those pink t-shirts... as well as to everyone in the high school who donned a pink tee and stood up for the original pink tee wearing lad! Confused? Read the article. Read more articles while you're there. I didn't... but don't let that stop you.

The Daily Galaxy: News from Planet Earth & Beyond

At first glance, you'd expect The Daily Galaxy to be predominately about space. Not so. As the blog's description states:

The Daily Galaxy: News from Planet Earth & Beyond, is an eclectic text and video presentation of fascinating news and original insights on science, space exploration, technology, and their reflections in popular culture (film, books, events).

Eclectic is no exaggeration. From The Simpsons, Woody Allen and the possibility that humans may one day be kept as pets by "human friendly" artificial intelligence, to online social network sites, human evolution, politically hard wired brains and giant spider webs, this blog leaves virtually no stone in the galaxy unturned.

The Sinner's Guide to the Evangelical Right

The Sinner's Guide to the Evangelical Right, in addition to being a book, is also a blog which professes to be "The Internet's Home For Sinners Destined To Be Left Behind". It's an informational blog keeping us up to date on the doings and sayings of the religious right... from the perspective of someone... ummm... a little more left leaning, I'd say.

Eatnineghost.com — Anything that worth the talk!

Eatnineghost.com is an interesting blog with a lot of photos of various interesting things -- from penis shaped ice cream, to the girl with two heads. Ok... so the blog's author's English isn't perfect... but whose is, really?

Girl with a one-track mind - Diary of a Sex Fiend

Girl with a one-track mind is a... ummm... fun blog... read it. I'll give you a little "sampling" of it...

We drank our tea in silence and shortly afterwards I made my way home. It was only when I looked through the camera later, that I realised that even though I was embarrassed by her finding those pictures, I had got off lightly: also stored on the memory card were other, more compromising photographs, specifically the ones I snapped of various erect penises from my trip to the Museum of Sex. It's one thing to have your mum see you dressed up in sexy gear, but it's another thing entirely for her to view the material you use to masturbate with. Ugh. -- excerpt from the blog Girl with a one-track mind

Oddee - Quality Entertainment

Though Oddee claims to be "a blog of the oddities of our world", I wouldn't actually describe most of its content as "odd". I think "a blog of the funny, silly, amazing or otherwise interesting of our world" would have been more accurate. But what would I know... I'm odd. In any case, from poor "Engrish transration" and stupid signs to ugly celebs and amazing extinct animals, Oddee did get at least one thing right... it is "Quality Entertainment". Actually, now that I think about it... I'm not sure they got that right either. Maybe Quality and/or Entertainment, since the content tends to be either quality or entertaining, but seldom both. However, it's still a worthy blog to check out.
